Battery Life on the Pixel 6 Pro is 1-2 days while the Pixel 6 is ~ 1 day

Based on leaks by Evan Blass (@evleaks) from carphonewarehouse, Google is saying the Pixel 6 Pro will have ~34 hours of battery life while the Pixel 6 will have an “all-day battery life.” The 5000mAh and adaptive refresh rate (10Hz – 120Hz) of the Pixel 6 Pro helps achieve the numbers that Google is quoting. The regular Pixel 6 does not come with adaptive refresh (due to not having the LTPO panel) so expect worse battery life.

Titan M2 security chip

It looks like we will be getting an updated security chip on the Pixel 6 series. Along with the new chip, there is a new security center. This page allows the user to check their security status and fix potential security issues. If you look closely, you can see 5th item on the list is called “Face and Fingerprint unlock.” Multiple publications have speculated that the Pixel 6 series will come with face unlock. Combining face and fingerprint unlock will make for an interesting multi-factor authentication approach to security.

New camera sensors capture 150% more light

The new 50MP camera on both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will capture 150% more light compared to the Pixel 5. The new camera should improve the night sight photos on the Pixel by quite a bit. I am very excited to see how this new camera will improve the photo and video quality of the Pixel 6 series.

Magic Eraser

A new magic eraser feature is coming to the Pixel 6 series. This feature allows you to remove photobomber and unwanted objects from your photos. I am pretty excited to see how well this feature works and can imagine this being super helpful in crowded tourist spots.

Face deblur

Face deblurring is a new feature that will allow you to unblur photos that include faces after the photo has been taken. This feature should be useful if you have kids or are taking photos of fast-moving subjects.

Ultra-wide front-facing camera on the Pixel 6 Pro

The Pixel 6 Pro will have a wider selfie camera. Google quotes it as having 94Β° field-of-view. This camera will allow you to fit in more people for your selfies. I could not find any information about whether the Pixel 6 will also have a wider selfie camera. Given that it isn’t on the Pixel 6 marketing material, my guess is that this feature will be exclusive to the Pro model.

Three microphones

Based on the leaked repair manuals, both devices will sport three microphones. There is one microphone on the top of the phone and another on the bottom of the phone. The last microphone is on the camera band.

Stereo speakers

Google is ditching the under-screen speaker of the Pixel 5 and bringing back an unobstructed top speaker. Unfortunately, the stereo speakers will not be both front-firing. The top speaker will sit above the screen and be front-firing, while the bottom speaker is on the bottom of the device and will be down-firing.

Offline Google Lens and translation

Based on the carphonewarehouse leaks, the Pixel 6 series will support offline translations and Google Lens support. At launch, there will be 55 languages available for offline translation. This translation extends into live video captions, private chats, and messages. All translations are done offline and securely on the device.

Five Years of Security Updates

Google is offering five years of security updates for the Pixel 6 series. The marketing material does not reveal the number of major OS updates. My guess is that it will be four years of major OS updates.

No charging in the box but faster wired and wireless charging

It is pretty much confirmed that there will not be a charger included in the box. Instead, both the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will support faster wired and wireless charging. For wired charging, you should expect 30-watt fast charge on both devices. For Qi wireless charging, the Pixel 6 is 21-watts and the Pixel 6 Pro is 23-watts. A new Pixel dock and 30-watt charger will be sold separately.

Full repair manuals and assembly guides

The repair manuals and assembly guides for both devices have leaked as well. You can download and read both of the manuals on Brandon Lee’s This is tech today Twitter page

Pixel Pass

Another leak by Brandon Lee shows that Google will be offering a Pixel Pass subscription service that includes various Google services (Youtube Premium, Google One, Play Pass, and Google Fi), a Pixel phone with the promise of regular upgrades, and extended warranty via preffered care or device protection. There is no word on pricing just yet, but this could be pretty compelling for Pixel fans and heavy Google users.
